The host agency provides the training location and helps promote the course. CSM does all of the advertising, printing, supplying of materials and instructors, and processing of payments. The training location for the program, will need to include a teaching area that can seat 34 people comfortably and six to ten rooms for practice scenarios (many host agencies use dormitories, churches or hotels rooms).
Hosting is the most cost-effective way to get students trained at the lowest possible cost. It eliminates travel costs entirely.  There are also special student discounts for host agencies. Typically, a host agency earns two free seats for every ten paid enrollments.
A contract course involves the host agency paying the full cost of the course.  Open-enrollment courses involve students from multiple agencies paying directly to CSM as they register through a web-based registration system.  Open-enrollment courses require a minimum of 22 students to pay for attendance or the course may be cancelled or rescheduled.
The minimum number of students is 12 for all courses.  The maximum number of students is dependent upon the course, but is generally 30 for the Crisis/Hostage Courses and 40 for all other courses.
60 days for a contract course and 90 days for an open-enrollment course.
Attending courses can cost anywhere from $0 to $725 per person.  Look at our calendar for prices of specific events, or contact us for a quote.
Student must have attended an approved basic crisis/hostage negotiation course (40 hours) prior to attending a CSM Level II (Intermediate) course. Basic courses taught by other groups often meet this minimum requirement. Students who would like to attend a Level III (Advanced) must have attended a CSM Level II.  Requests for exceptions to policy must be submitted in writing prior to registration.
Many times, special funding can be procured for law enforcement training, though at times it requires research and grant writing. Some funding options may be available through your local negotiation association or other sources. Although CSM does not have access to information pertaining to grant funding of any type, we are happy to provide instructor qualifications, past performance history, sole source justifications, and lesson plans as part of the grant application process.
Visit our upcoming courses page for more information.
Submit a request through the “Contact Us” feature on this website.  Please include when and where you took the course and we will either issue you a new certificate or we will help facilitate a re-issue through our training partners (MCTC, St. Petersburg College, Hillsborough Community College, etc.).  We are usually able to re-issue within 24 hours by email.

CSM reserves the right to cancel any course. If a course is cancelled by CSM, CSM will provide paid registrants with the option to transfer registration payment to a future training course/event or receive a 100% refund (Please allow up to 30 days for refund to be processed). If a registrant is unable to attend a future course within one year, then a full refund will be issued (Please allow 30 days for refund to be processed). CSM makes every attempt to avoid cancelling courses.  However, if a course is cancelled, at least a 10-day notice will be provided to registrants.  In cases where a training coordinator or other third-party has registered on behalf of a student, the notification will be sent the training coordinator or third-party.  CSM is not responsible for the lack of notification between the coordinator and the student.

Registrants may cancel their attendance to a course for any reason, as long as CSM receives an attendance cancellation notice 10 days or more prior to the course start date.  For cancellations received more than 10 days prior to course start date, registrants will receive a full refund of registration fees, less a $25.00 processing fee. Registrants may cancel their attendance to a course 3 to 10 days prior to the course start date and receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.

If a registrant cancels attendance to a course less than 3 days prior to the course start date, the registrant will be responsible for the entire course attendance registration fee.  However, at any time leading up to the course, a registrant may transfer registration from one student to another.  (Note, last-minute transfers may result in a delay of receiving certificates for the new student)

No refunds or rescheduling opportunities will be given for no-shows for any reason.

CSM is not responsible for any fees incurred related to cancellation by CSM or student (airline reservations, rental car reservation, hotel reservations, etc.).
