MACN returns to Columbia this year for the 2023 Crisis Negotiator’s Challenge!
As always, the scenario promises to bring new twists in one of the most challenging stand-offs faced by law enforcement in modern history.
This is a unique opportunity for Crisis Negotiation Teams from throughout the State of Missouri and the Midwest to experience the hands-on application of crisis negotiation skills. Teams will participate in a scenario-driven competition. Up to 10 teams (6 negotiators each) may register. Other negotiators are encouraged to attend for training and observation purposes. Individuals may register to be placed on an ad-hoc, multi-agency team. Judging criteria (based on the TSU national negotiator’s competition) will be provided to teams upon registration. The judging criteria remains unchanged from last year.
Registration: Early registration is encouraged – many teams have expressed an interest in attending and we are limited in the number of teams who can participate. Teams who are a ‘no-show’ or who cancel less than 48 hours prior to the event – will not be refunded registration costs.
Even if your agency may take a little time to process your training request - DO NOT delay your registration. You may go to crisisnegotiation.us and register and when you get to the payment stage of your registration, select 'hold a seat' to secure your team's spot. When your training request has been approved, you may call in your credit card payment or send a check.
MACN membership: Not sure if you are a current member? You are probably not. Membership fees are paid for by calendar year. You may go to crisisnegotiation.net or macn.us to renew your MACN membership dues separately, or you may pay with your registration.
Judges: Teams participating in the competition must provide at least one judge to a judging pool. Judges must have attended at least a 40-hour basic course and have at least 2 years of negotiation experience.
Facilitators: Individuals who would like to participate as a facilitator may contact Deb McMahon directly or indicate your willingness to participate as a facilitator when your register.
Facilitators assist in maintaining notional information for the scenario, coordinate tactical aspects of the scenario, provide oversight for role players, or manage administrative aspects of the scenario.
