Sergeant Brian Morgan began his law enforcement career in 2007 with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) in Tampa, Florida. While serving as a deputy, he was assigned to patrol, field training, and street crimes units. Upon being promoted to the rank of detective, he was assigned to a property/general offense unit as well as Internal Affairs. While serving in Internal Affairs, he was appointed the Accreditation Manager for HCSO. He was then promoted to the rank of corporal and served as a field training supervisor before heading back to supervise the property/general offense unit he was assigned to as a detective. Most recently, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to patrol services.
In addition to his primary assignments, Sergeant Morgan was also assigned to the Special Incident Response Team (SIRT) for several years. The unit responds to public disorder/ mass arrest incidents as well as search and rescue events. He received training on protest devices and chemical munitions while on the team. He was also involved in the planning, training, and supervision for the 2012 Republican National Convention held in Tampa. Sergeant resigned his position with the SIRT after trying out and being offered a position on the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT).
With his promotion to sergeant, he was forced to resign his position from the team, but responded to many calls during his nearly 8 years on the team including suicidal subjects, barricaded suspects, and armed hostage situations. He has participated and judged multiple negotiations competitions. He has also taken part in scenario writing and facilitation for competitions and multi-agency trainings. He is a current member of the Florida Hostage Negotiators Association (FAHN) and the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA).
Sergeant Morgan has served as a full and part-time criminal justice professor at several Tampa area colleges and regularly instructs for the HCSO. He has helped create and teach courses during in-service training relating to police suicide awareness, stress management, and post incident debriefs.
Most recently, Sergeant Morgan was selected as an instructor for Crisis Systems Management where he trains throughout the United States.
Sergeant Morgan holds master degrees in criminal justice and public administration and is in dissertation for a doctoral degree. He currently resides in Plant City, Florida, the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World. |
